REPEAT clients from across the state turned out for Paxton's third annual on-property Border Leicester sale at Western Flat on Friday, bidding fiercely at the top end, helping the sale to a top of $4200. The top price was $1000 higher than last year, and was achieved by lot 15, a July 2018-drop twin sired by Johnos 11177 that had Lambplan figures of 4.3 for weaning weight, 6.6 for post-weaning weight, 0.1 for Pfat, and a 130.4 ranking on the Maternal $ index. Stud principal Martin Harvey said the ram had shown early promise, and the stud had originally planned to keep the sire.

Paxton Stud is pleased to add Johno’s 18-202, purchased for $15 000 in October 2019 The successful buyers were Martin and Kirsty Harvey, Paxton stud, Western Flat, who were impressed with the good feet and structure of the ram, as well as its figures including a Border Leicester cross index of 139.9- in the top 10 per cent in the Sheep Genetics database.

A CONSISTENT line of rams resulted in full clearance and a jump in the average price at the second on-property sale of Paxton Border Leicesters at Western Flat on Friday. The full offering of 150 rams sold to $3200, averaging $2116, up nearly $600 from the average at the inaugural sale last year. As a sign of the strength throughout the catalogue, the top price was paid for lot 47.

Martin and Kirsty Harvey have been selling White Suffolk and Poll Dorset rams privately for many years but held their debut twilight auction on Wednesday last week. The sale’s $2000 top price was paid for the first of the White Suffolks in the ring. In total 90 of 99 White Suffolks averaged $1120, while 83 of 105 Poll Dorsets averaged $1307.
