Paxton shines with $400 av lift for Border Leicester offering
Paxton enjoyed a near $400 jump at its 5th annual Border Leicester sale at Western Flat on Thursday, with a number of return clients snapping up an even and quality offering.
In the breakdown, 143 sires sold of 145 offered, averaging $3060 and topping at $7000, compared last year’s top price of $4600 and average of$2642.

The top price was made by Lot 8, a June 2020-drop twin knocked down toAshley and Kathy Simons, Pembroke Pastoral, Penola. Sired by Inverbrackie 174809, it sported figures including 0.3 for birthweight, 6.2 weaning weight, 9.5 post-weaning weight, 0.5 PW fat and 0.9 PW eye muscle depth, while it ranked 131.6 on the Border Leicester Cross index.
Also making an impressive price was Lot 3, also a twin, which made $6000.
Its figures included 0.2BWT, 4.2WWT, 6.1PWWT, -0.3Pfat and a Border Leicester Cross index of 118.
The $6000 ram was knocked down to Coolami Partnership, Coleraine, Vic. Paxton stud principal Martin Harvey was “absolutely rapt” with the sale result.
“We ended up getting a full clearance, we sold the last two rams basically]straight after the sale. We are so thrilled that there were so many repeat buyers here, and we picked up three or four new clients as well” Mr Harvey said.
“I was hoping it was going to be a strong sale, but to get that average is just fantastic”
Jemalong Wool, Forbes, NSW was the sale’s volume buyer, securing 16 rams to $5200, averaging $3900, while 10 were knocked down to Pocock Pastoral, Lameroo, topping at $4000, averaging $3700.
Sixteen rams were also knocked down to Kingston SE clients KR & V McBride ,to a top price of $2000 and averaging $1619.
DA&MJV Charlick, Padthaway, bought 11 sires, topping at $2400 and averaging $1927.
PPHS conducted the sale, with PPHS' Josh Manser and Spence Dix & Co & Jono Spence sharing the auctioneering duties.
